It's a Hunger Strike!

I saw on the news today that college students were going on a hunger strike. Regardless of the purpose of the hunger strike, who really cares? Why does it even warrant making the news? I’ve seen this used as a method of protest in the past, usually by a two-year-old. I’m always baffled, especially in America where people tend to be overweight – 73.6% in 2017-2018 (CDC National Center for Health Statistics). Maybe we should all go on a hunger strike!

I mean, if I saw someone on the street or a campus saying they were on a hunger strike for whatever reason, I think I would have to laugh. I think it would be just as effective as a form of protest to go on a beach strike. YES, now that’s something I could get behind. I’m going to sit out on the beach until I get my way. Maybe to really emphasize my position, I will only use SPF 15 sunscreen. Or how about a water strike? I could do that until I get my way; I’m only drinking red wine. Maybe go as far as making it only Merlot. That could be interesting, not sure my boss would like me to have wine all day long, but an activist can’t concern themselves with opposition.

But seriously, hunger strike? Earlier I said if I saw someone on a hunger strike, I would laugh. What I would most likely do is get a nice big steak with some mashed potatoes and gravy and a great salad and eat it in front of them.
